Happy 2nd Birthday, Miles!
The Klinge’s came to Chicago to celebrate Miles’ 2nd Birthday!!
Before the birthday festivities began, we took a look at Lake Michigan and the big fountain early Sunday afternoon.
Then after lunch and Miles’ nap, he ripped into his gifts! Making a mess AND presents – his day really couldn’t have gotten much better!
WOW…. He got a lot of great stuff! Books, rug-size version of Candyland, magnetic doodle desk, matchbox cars, silly string, shopping money, finger paints, a guitar and more!
The festivities ended that night after dinner with a tractor cake and ice cream. This was a tragic creation, but it fooled the 2 year old. I’m sure he’ll make fun of me someday……..

Miles’ ACTUAL birthday was the next day, Monday, October 25th. Grandma, Grandpa, and Josh had to head back to Iowa that morning.
So… We convinced Nate to take a half day off from work. After Miles’ nap, we took trains and buses to visit dad’s office, pick him up, and head to Shedd Aquarium.
We walked along the lake towards the park while Miles had a snack…
Miles ran his little heart out at Millennium Park!
Nate and Miles messed around near the mirrored orb thing (sorry, no pictures) and then Miles RAN all over the fountain space. The fountain space has two large towers with images on them. Miles ran back and forth between them for more than 40 minutes! In the summer months, the towers actually spew water out on its patrons! We’ll have to visit this park again sometime.
He did run without the stroller too… by the way! It was difficult to get him to leave the park, but we knew that he was getting tired and that we had public transit to ride!
Needless to say, Miles slept VERY well that night!

I love toddlers!
In early October, we reunited with a bunch of our friends that were blessed with toddlers around the same time that we had Miles!

This is Ali and Alex! We through a baby shower for her! It’s finally her turn to grow a toddler!
We hung out in Cedar Rapid, ate great food and played at the park. The kids and adults really had a great time!

Orange punkin’ !!
We carved a pumpkin this year, and Miles LOVED it!
First we cleaned out the pumpkin. Miles enjoyed helping. At first touch, he made a scrunched nose/startled face, but didn’t flinch at all has far as his hands were concerned! He continued to dig in!
I cleaned up and roasted the seeds while we waited for dad to get home from work.
Nate helped Miles maneuver the knife to carve a simple Jack-O-Lantern. Miles had a blast….
Here it is!
And just when he thought it couldn’t get any better, we lit the pumpkin up!

The Chicago Loft!
Finally, here is the much anticipated virtual tour of our sexy Chicago Loft!
First off – this place is a celebration of space! After 14 months in a super tiny, WAY overpriced 700 Sq Ft, 1 bedroom apartment in New York, we set SPACE as our #1 priority! Nate has always wanted to live in a loft, so we figured this was his best chance to do so. It’s likely a matter of time before we step up our responsibility and move to the suburbs…
Our new home boasts 2 bedrooms (each with a skylight that opens a little), 2 bathrooms and a great room open to the kitchen! The 12 ft ceilings make this place feel huge! We had no idea just how much we missed Miles having his own room until we moved back to the midwest!
Before we get moving, here’s a floor plan to give you perspective!

When walking into our place from the hallway – you will walk through this door. Next, we’ll show you Miles’/guest bathroom. It’s the white trimmed door down the short hall to the right.
And here we are…. To your left is a small coat closet.
Leaving the bathroom, here’s your view. The entry door would be to your right. Even further to the right is Miles’ bedroom. We’ll go there next.
Here’s Miles’ room – he loves the double pocket doors!
Here’s what Miles sees from his room. Are you lost yet? That’s the hallway that went to his bathroom. The first set of white doors is a utility/furnace closet. The next set is the stacked washer/dryer.
This is standing next to the laundry doors going further into the apartment. To the left is a long, wide hallway. Immediately to the left in that hallway is our bedroom.
Here’s our room. In the first room picture, the bathroom is off to the left.

Next.. We’ve left the master bedroom and walked to the end of the hallway. This is the view down the hallway looking back toward the entryway and master bedroom (door on right).
Here’s the great room(straight ahead) and the kitchen (left).

Finally, just outside the windows is a balcony! We are able to have a grill again! Unfortunately, it was a little too dark outside when trying to take the outdoor pictures. I couldn’t get a decent picture of the view. But – you’re in luck because Nate was clever!
Nate went up one flight of stairs to the roof deck just above our apartment to do some long exposure night time thing. You can even see our skylight bubble at the bottom of the picture – oops!
