tots and burgers

Did you know that raptors like burgers and tots?!

Well, they do!

 SNB11008

T-Rex likes hamburgers too!!

 SNB11010

Raptors want nothing more to be just like T-Rex!

This is just a quick glimpse into Miles two favorite things right now: dinosaurs and food!

Is it just me, or does this burger make my kid look huge?!?!

Puke on this!

Today was the twin's baby shower!
In case you still haven't heard, Nate's little sister and her husband are having two darling ladies this summer :)

To be completely honest, coming up with a gift for this growing family was intimidating. They are talented, creative, and hardworking.  They can 'one-up' just about anything - store bought or a craigslist closeout - just check them out at Sawdust and Embryos!

How could I just buy something in a store and wrap it up?!  The little ladies deserve better...
Here's our creation:

I know, from experience, that the pretty burp clothes are awful...  Gerber cloth diapers absorb SOOO much more.  We personalized them with a little ribbon - picked out by Miles!

Ribbon was pinned along both seams of each diaper and finished up with black thread and my sewing machine. ( I love messing around with that thing!!)

Mid project, I remembered that these babies are blessed with a grandma, great aunt, and great grandmas that are incredible with needles, fabric, and the like. (what was I thinking?!?!)

I'll tell you - I love my nieces! I wanted to pour my heart into something special and one-of-a-kind. My skills are still developing - obviously! By the time they notice, they will not need burp clothes anymore!
Win-Win..

So.. go ahead!  Puke on it!  I'm honored :)

Enjoy your remaining gestation.  We cannot wait to meet you!!

Easter Bunny Projects

We put together a couple more Easter crafts – this time the Bunny was the theme.
SNB10881
Here’s what you need:

  • paper plate
  • a facial close up photo – ours was printed on regular paper
  • pink, white, and black construction paper
  • Glue stick and transparent tape

Once all of the pieces were prepped, I introduced the project to Miles.
Let the assembly begin!

Ta Da!  Cute, isn’t it!?
SNB10883
There was also a last minute, impromptu idea – He, sadly, liked this one better.

His first response was… “Bunny… hop hop hop!!“  (complete with hopping and paws propped :)

We had fun… but Cooper – He wasn’t impressed!

Things my kid says

Just one short story.... but couldn't wait to share.

This weekend, Nate logged a few extra hours at the office.
Miles and I jumped into the car to pick Nate up.  Miles LOVES looking at the towers in the city :)
Once we picked Nate up, the boys had the following conversation:

Miles: Dad, I see towers. Fun! (pronounced fawn)
Nate: I see towers too!
Miles: Me too!
Nate: Miles, do you want to build towers and buildings when you grow up?  Just like Dad..?
Miles: No, I go to the beach.
Nate (defeated): Good answer.

He was rather defiant when trying to get a candid photo today.
Sorry, but this will have to do.....

Get in my Belly

After a long, hard day of landscaping: rock moving, bucket dumping and dirt digging
Miles earned his reward!

How do you please a hungry boy???

Once primed with 6 breadstick crackers dipped in cheese, 1.5 pieces of buttered bread, and a couple baby carrots….

It’s a FEAT thing….

It’s official – I’ve registered for the Soldier Field 10 mile race on May 28th, 2011!!
I’m still a little surprised I’m going to follow through with this… I don’t really have a strong track record for  completing this sort of thing, especially given the only time during the week that I have time to train for the race is at 4:30am. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a morning person – but this is nuts!  Getting up at 4:30am is tough all by itself – getting up to run 3-4 miles is  INSANE.
The race is limited to 15,000 entrants and starts at Soldier Field. Click here to see the 2010 course.
Hands down, the BEST part of this race is that it ends on the 50 yard line of Soldier Field….  And I’ll be on the jumbo-tron!! At this point, I’ll never afford a ticket to sit in the stands of the stadium, much less step foot on the field!!  I’ve always wanted to be on TV… I think the Bears’ Jumbotron will suffice :o)
I know you’re all curious <insert sarcasm>, so here’s my training plan:
training
So, as you’re reading this, I’ve already logged 30+ miles…
I should also clarify aim for the race -  My goal is to finish the race within the time limit allowed for the course!  It’s a feat thing, not a speed thing :)  Slow and Steady FINISHES the race!!
Wow.. Still can’t believe this is happening….!
 SNB10878
Finally... I’m putting together the perfect running playlist for 10 miles (about 1.5 hours or so).  My pace tends to vary with the song blaring through my earbuds…..
Any suggestions?!?!?!

Things my kids says…..

I meant to keep up with fun stories for a new segment of the blog – but so much happens that I’m struggling to remember the funny stuff Miles comes up with.
Enjoy the 3 short stories/memories below:

~~~~~~~~~~~
Friday, Miles and I were driving home from school.  I was singing a few of his favorite songs and trying to get him to sing along.  Miles loves to do actions, but refuses to sing!!
Miles eventually got tired of performing actions and said:
Miles: Mom, stop it singing!
Me: But I like singing. (I made a sad face)
Miles: Mom, be happy.
Me: Singing makes me happy. Can I sing?
Miles: No, Mom. Stop it singing. Makes my ears hurt (he sticks his fingers in his ears)
….. Yes, I pouted!
~~~~~~~~~~~

A few weeks back:
Miles dug his ‘Bones’ pajamas out of this dresser. We are soo happy to see the warmer weather!! So far, so good!
Issues arose when we were trying to get ready for church the next morning. Miles refused to change out of his bones. I’m not too proud to admit that I bribed him to change into a nice outfit with a gummi vitamin, chocolate milk, and hair gel…

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miles is entering the phase of wanting to pick out his clothes. If he sees it, his ‘strong’ shirt is always his first choice. Today, Miles dressed himself – Orange and Grey horizontal striped shirt, bright blue athletic/sweat pants, and blue and black outdoor puffy vest, and blue/white/pink plaid loafer style slip-on shoes.  His comment was – look, match! Blue, blue, and blue, match!
When Nate got up and wandered into the front room wearing a bright blue t-shrirt – Miles exclaimed – Miles match dad’s shirt. Blue, blue, blue match!
You can thank me now for not taking a picture…  My eyes are still burning!
~~~~~~~~~~~~

I don’t have a fun picture from today… so enjoy these pictures that JUST found on an old memory card!
