18 wild and crazy months
These last 18 months have been wonderful! How did Nate and I ever fill our time before Miles?! He’s been such a high energy, adorable, irreplaceable blessing!
Who could resist that face?!
To celebrate the half birthday weekend, Miles and I went shopping. Our first stop was “The Children’s Place” store to look for shoes and a dress shirt for my bro’s wedding, but only left with sunglasses. We did find snazzy shoes at payless.
We played with bubbles, did a little cooking together, and read lots of books. The rain hindered a lot of activity options. We found a couple of mini pots with soil and seeds in the $1 aisle at Target. We planted tomatoes and red peppers!
Green thumb
Let’s cook – BAM!
Yeah for gourmet toddler food – Elbow Macaroni and Broccoli Alfredo and Chicken sticks!
Miles has been experiencing a vocabulary explosion. He loves to help me do just about anything – including laundry and giving Cooper a bath. He’s very high energy – always running, climbing, marching, and dancing. Miles has his own version of singing and associated actions for Itsy Bitsy spider. It’s super cute. I’m on a mission to capture this on video ;o) We are still working hard to increase Miles’ capacity for listening.
Tomorrow’s Miles’ 18 month appointment. We’ll give you a better update later.

Miles Updates
Miles is becoming more and more of a boy, shedding every last glimmer of baby. I loved him as a baby, and I will admit that I often miss those days. He’s growing up soooo fast, but every new stage that he enters quickly becomes my new favorite! He’s a fantastic little man!
His Hair
Today, I gave in and cut his hair again. After an 8 week attempt to try and let it grow out a little more in hopes that it would eventually lay down – I gave in. [Miles’ coif – 1, Miles’ mom – 0]
Here are the after shots: Don’t worry ladies, I left it a little longer on top! It’s still faux-hawk-able!
His highchair
Miles sits at a quarter size table with quarter size chairs next to his quarter size friends. It about time that we follow the same trend at home. The bonus side of having a 4 in 1 highchair is that you can make it do whatever you want. Our dining table wasn’t as accommodating. Luckily, the versatility of the chair left us with an option. Part of the highchair is now strapped to a dining chair, less the tray. One dilemma solved – leaving us with the issue of where to store the spare parts! I cannot wait for a bigger place!
Other stories – sorry, these are without pictures!
Miles cycles through little obsessions. At the moment, he points out every bird and tells us what they say “tweet, tweet”! He also loves any chance he can get to chase them. The pigeons are super lazy and will run awhile before flying away from my curious little toddler!
Miles also loves to point at and say “bus.” We pass several of them coming home for work/school everyday as we cruise through White Plains. Miles has a similar behavior surrounding the “choo-choo” trains.
Books – We read lots of them! He has learned the nightly routine of bath, teeth, book(s), and then bedtime…. He has learned that batting his eyes and grabbing another book, and then another book, and then another book will delay bedtime a little bit longer. Sneaky little guy!
Word triggers – Miles loves his new vocabulary. When we read about, talk about, or see things/objects/animals that he knows and can associate to something he has (ie. toy, book, cup, sound) Miles must stop what he’s doing to find that “thing” and show us that he knows what’s going on. For example, if we talk about Elmo or put in an Elmo movie, Miles has to dig out his Elmo laptop. If we read a certain book and get to the Letter J for Juice – Miles suddenly needs a drink from a sippy cup. When we talk about birds, Miles needs to stop our conversation to tell us what birds say. If someone is playing a guitar on TV, Miles will dig out his guitar and play along. I’m sure you get the idea…
Miles is loving his new room at daycare. All of the teachers, even those not watching over toddlers, go out of their way to assure me that Miles is a GREAT eater and that he LOVES to dance. He thoroughly enjoys busting out his crazy, sugar-rushed, happy feet dance moves! However, on top of being a carseat dancer, Miles now tries to sing along. He will shout drawn out ooooooo’s and ooooooowah’s from the backseat on occasion.
Miles has learned the order of mom’s and dad’s who pick up their kids from his daycare room. If I’m running a few minutes late, Miles knows it! He’s usually worn out by 5pm from all of the activity in his new room, so his crankiness is tough to mask. Although, in my defense, I don’t even get greeted with a hug anymore. When I arrive, he’ll see me, start to run towards me, stop mid-sprint, pivot, and run to the mini-fridge instead. He wants to grab his cup for the ride home, grab his coat, and run to the exits so that he can get a cracker. He’s becoming a stickler for schedules….
Miles is trying to be conversational. He can say – in his own slurred way – phrases that we say to him fairly often. These phrases include, but are not limited to : uh-oh, “doo-a-doo?” (translated-what did I do?), Oh no!, Yes! (including the fist pump), Yummy Mmm Mmm, and No-no, Per!! (Per is Cooper).
We read through blogs of our friends together. Miles likes to point our the other babies (usually toddlers) and copy whatever they are doing. A few examples of this are standing on a chair like his friend Amelia, mimicking Baby Levi’s facial expressions, and laying on a stuffed animal like little Edyn. It’s adorable – yes – but I fear we are going to have our hands full!
I’m know that I’m forgetting something… so if more stories pop-up, I’ll try hard to be a little more timely in posting!

Mr. Potato head
Yes, he's a classic toy, and yes, I truely believe every child should have one! However, it wasn't until this morning, watching Miles play with the potato that I realized it was a clever, little educational toy! How lovely!!

Miles loves naming the facial features and sticking them on the potato's face (and his own). Miles really knows his stuff!! We are going to have to rely on his academics to get him into college. His coordination is lacking, still! This picture doesn't do the injury justice, but it will have to do.

Miles smacked his face on the pavement outside at daycare while trying to get off a toy car too quickly. I was told the bloody lip was impressive-based on the day old fat lip, I'd have to agree that it probably was.....
He's tough, but the poor guy wimpered with each goldfish cracker he ate on the way home. Salted wounds! Ouch! But it must not have hurt bad enough to stop eating them.....

Easter 2010
First of all… Happy Easter to all! Second, celebrating Easter without a large gathering of family just seems weird. So, how did we spend our day? I’m glad that you asked. I will tell you!
We started with a mini, indoor egg hunt.
Yes… Miles is collecting his eggs in a pumpkin. Space is still an issue. Where would I store a basket… Really?!
12 eggs and 3 basketballs, all filled with candy…
Then, Dad and Miles enjoyed a little story time.
We went to church, skyped with all the Gma’s, Gpa’s, and the aunts or uncles that surrounded them.
We had ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch – about as close as we got to a traditional Easter ham!
Then.. we headed north and west for a hike at Bear Mountain. We chose not to take any pictures this time around. The hike and the outdoor time were great, but the scenery was still pretty barren.
Here are a couple pretty pictures from our visit last fall!
After the hike, we came home to relax!! We grilled pork chops for dinner, watched Madagascar 2, and settled into our Sunday night routines: Miles is in bed, Nate’s making up time on his studio project from home, and I’m blogging away and doing the laundry!
How to color eggs – a stepwise guide
Miles indulged in a 30 minute power nap on the train ride home from the park.
When we got home, we immediately fed Miles supper and began phase II of our fun-filled family day! We bravely let Miles color eggs for Easter! He picked out the kit himself – Mo Mo, that’s Elmo to those of you not yet fluent in Miles-ese!
Step 1- remove clothing and cover table to limit damage.
Step 2 – put the eggs in and let them soak in the dye
Step 3 – pull the eggs out and let them dry
Step 4 – admire accomplishments and survey damage
Step 5 – share the fun with dad
Step 6 – entertain yourself while the eggs dry
Step 7 – finish up the details
So Fun! So Tired! So Proud!
Step 8 – A Great Day deserves a Good Night!
Central Park Saturday
Miles began the day practicing his tech-y skills. Can you tell how much he adores his dad?
After a fancy breakfast of cereal and milk, we quickly showered and packed up for a big day in the city. We rode the “choo-choo” train into grand central station and walked 2 miles or so to central park. We planned to stop by FAO Schwartz quickly to grab a ball. How could be possibly enjoy a day in the park without a ball?!?! Silly parents!
POP question: do you know what is located very, very close to FAO Schwartz?? The Apple Store…. Normally, this would not be an issue. However on the morning of Apple’s launch of their new iPad – it’s a very, bad idea!
This is the view of the hysteria from across the street. On our way home 6+ hours later, the crowd was even worse! News vans and helicopters were flooding the place too, interviewing people who bought the new item and getting ridiculous aerial photos!
On to central park…. We walked, and walked, and walked to let Miles enjoy a nap. Miles woke up quickly and could sit in his stroller a minute longer once he saw the water and the puppies.
We ate a late lunch of hot dogs or gyros from a street cart vendor and headed to the zoo inside central park.
Miles checked out the ducks, the llamas, the cow, the pigs and turtles. He wanted to climb on the turtle shell ‘things’ but they were always full of much bigger kids.
It’s ok… Miles enjoyed playing with his dad and his new ball outside the park much more. We found a cool playground too. Miles tested out the slide, rock walls, rope thing, and life in a sand pit. Miles did not want to leave…
Our time came to an end when the sun started to drop, taking the temperatures with it. We were ok with that since we were worn out from a long day outside. We still had a lot more planned for the night – but that’s another blog.
