Over the 4th of July, the Klinge’s assembled in South Central Iowa for an adventurous set of traditions rounding out a long holiday weekend. (Yes, I am aware of how late this post is!)
Before I get started, THANKS, Grandma Kathy, for taking lots of pictures. I took very few :o(
The location: Rock Creek State Park just outside of Grinnell, Iowa.
The weather was 95+ degree hot with high humidity to start the weekend, but ended with a breezy 85 degree afternoon.
In total, we had 3 sites loaded up with 5 tents. We are a party all by ourselves.
We ate lots of tasty meals
Drank tons of water, soda and Fancy Dunn Bros Coffee – hot and iced!! Early into the weekend, Miles flexed his sneakiness. If he doesn’t look at us, we can’t see him or the soda he smuggled out of the cooler, right?!
We took Grandpa Paul’s canoes on the lake
The big kids played just as hard as the little kids!
We went for walks - potty breaks and quiet time
It’s never complete without fires and axes
We’re a vey close family_This weekend hit a whole new level brotherly bonding!
We relaxed and celebrated the birthday girl. We dreamt about next year’s trip, blessed with double the grandkids!
To be honest, the weekend was consumed with a need to catch the best fish.
Kendall, Laura and Carrie found worms.
Nick caught the first fish….
….but Josh put in extra time and caught the biggest fish.
Even Grandma took a turn!
Thankfully, Miles and Nathan also had some success! We’ve created a monster!!
We didn’t have to try very hard to look good, or stay cool! It’s just THAT easy for a Klinge!
After missing out on this trip the past 2 years, Nate and I were so happy to be back with the family. Introducing Miles to the tradition was icing on the weekend.
P.S. We missed you, Uncle Titus!
